During the night, bear JJ4 was apprehended after being positively identified as the animal responsible for the fatal attack on runner Andrea Papi in the woods of Caldes, and the subject of a shooting order issued by the Regional Administrative Court. "We wanted to share this information in 2020, when the province issued two orders for the bear's killing and capture, but we were unable to do so. So, there is satisfaction today, but also bitterness and sadness for what happened. This cannot but affect Trentino's emotions," said Maurizio Fugatti, president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, at a press conference held this morning to assess the situation. "The bear JJ4 belongs to Casteller," Fugatti explained. "We delivered all the documentation to the administrative court yesterday. We hold out hope that the Regional Administrative Court will be able to render a ruling prior to 11 May, because in the event of a favorable ruling, we will move forward with the culling".
