"At this time, because of what is happening with the brutal Russian aggression against Ukraine, the focus on the security sector is preeminent: there is the need to support Ukraine, with which we have registered full agreement; this means support to Ukraine as long as necessary and in every respect, of military, financial, humanitarian supplies, for the reconstruction of the country, with the conviction that this concerns not only Ukraine and not only the neighboring countries like Poland but all countries that refer to the freedom of people and peoples, because this is what is endangered by Russian aggression". These were the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, yesterday on a visit to Poland, in statements to the press after his meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda. "We are all horrified by some of the inhumane behaviors that are being used in the war by the Russian armed forces, hitting targets of civilian infrastructure, civilian places of habitation in a way that makes the aggression that is taking place even more cruel," the head of state added, stressing that "we are pleased that this year has seen the entry of Finland into NATO and we hope that the actual entry of Sweden will come soon. The compactness of the Alliance is an important fact, in parallel with the compactness of the European Union, which expresses in all ways support for Ukraine by actively and concretely engaging”.
