Italians are a cycling nation: 17 million families own a bicycle, 3 million use it every day, and thanks to the push of purchase incentives, which has exploded the spread of two wheels much more comfortable and, in any case, with zero environmental impact, today one in every ten families owns an e-bike. Tourism cannot ignore the enormous development opportunity associated with this trend, considering the most recent data from the two-year period 2021-2022: over 22 million compatriots used the bicycle at least occasionally on vacation, particularly in seaside destinations and places immersed in nature. During the upcoming holidays, a population of 9 and a half million Italians will have a bicycle, either owned or rented, as a travel companion, and nearly 7 million of these will use it on an excursion. An experience that is far from exclusive, where easily accessible information on on-site rental services and the availability of easy and safe itineraries can easily induce the demand to choose one destination over another, and not just that of regular cyclists. In 24% of cases, Italians cite the difficulty of transporting their bicycle from their place of residence to the place of vacation, as well as a lack of assistance points, rental centers, and their cost. In a nutshell, it appears that smaller projects that are systematized between each other can be just as effective as larger ones.
