Currently, approximately 10,000 Italian soldiers are involved in 37 international operations in 25 countries. Four new missions in four countries have been added to the list: Ukraine, Libya, Niger, and Burkina Faso. Soldiers from Kiev have already traveled to Italy to train, and the activity will continue in the coming months. Rome will also contribute to the plan to increase artillery ammunition production to one million rounds per year. The EULAM mission, in which Italy is participating alongside 23 other countries, aims to strengthen the capacity of Kiev's armed forces to defend Ukraine's territorial integrity. The goal is to train 30 thousand soldiers by the end of the year to master the armaments received by the international alliance in order to counter Russian advances. The Italian Defense has not leaked any information about the training activity. However, Ukrainian soldiers are being trained at the Santa Barbara barracks in Sabaudia (Latina), the headquarters of the Army's anti-aircraft artillery command, to practice on the Samp-T, the anti-missile system that will soon be delivered to Kiev. Another European mission in which Italy will take part is Eubam, which aims to help Libya control its land and sea borders. With 400 personnel, Rome has long been present in the North African country with its own assistance and support mission. Libya is crucial to Italian interests, from migratory flows to energy. The third new mission in Niger, another key migration management country, is also European. Finally, a new bilateral mission has been established to assist Burkina Faso. This is another area of crisis where jihadist risk is mixed with Wagner militia penetration, contributing to the destabilization of a large portion of the African continent.
