Rising prices do not spare even culture: the Altroconsumo consumers organization compared the admission prices of the 15 most visited Italian museums in 2022 in Rome, Florence, Naples, Venice, Turin, Milan and Caserta, finding an average increase of 10% over the past year. Starting with the capital, a weekend among museums and monuments can cost an average of 2 percent more than last year. Undergoing the most significant changes are the Colosseum Archaeological Museum (+29% in 4 years) and Castel Sant'Angelo (+6% compared to 2022). The entrance ticket for the Vatican Museums did not increase in 2023, although it increased the price of pre-sale, which costs, as of today, 5 euros. In Florence, prices rose by 4 percent compared to 2022. The cost of visiting the Uffizi Gallery changed by +66% from 2015 to 2018, due to the fare distinction between high and low season. Specifically, in 2018, a ticket in the low season (November to February) was 12 euros (+4 euros pre-sale) - a price that remained unchanged in both 2022 and 2023. In contrast, also in the same year, but in the high season (March to October), a ticket costs 20 euros (+4 euros presale). This remained unchanged until March 1, 2023, when the price increased further by 21 percent (25 euros + 4 euros presale). Prices also rose in Naples: +33% over 2022. Specifically, the cost to visit the archaeological excavations of Pompeii rises from 16 euros in 2022 to 18 in 2023, a 13% increase over the previous year. Similar situation for a visit to the National Archaeological Museum, where the ticket increased by 20 percent from 15 to 18 euros in 2022. The most significant increase, however, was on admissions for the Royal Palace, from 6 to 10 euros compared to last year (+67%). Venice is also not exempt from price increases, confirming an average increase of 10 percent over 2022. The cost of a visit to the Doge's Palace will rise from 26 euros to 30 euros from September 1, 2023, marking a 15 percent increase over last year. On average, the cost of cultural visits to Turin will also increase by 10% compared to 2022. Admission to the Egyptian Museum now costs 18 euros (+20% over 2022). The exception is the Venaria Reale, in fact, among all the museums surveyed, it is the only case where the ticket price has decreased over the years, registering, during last year, a 20% reduction.
