He had arrived at Milan's Malpensa airport on a flight from Santo Domingo, sitting in a wheelchair and wearing a brace on his leg. The man, a U.S. citizen, was approached by the drug-sniffing dog Cosmo and Guardia di Finanza soldiers on duty at the airport, and they found 43 wrappers of pure cocaine, weighing more than eight kilograms, in the wheels of the wheelchair. The man was then taken to the hospital to check whether he had also ingested any eggs, and was later arrested. The drugs transported, sold at retail, would have yielded about one million euros. The Guardia di Finanza recalled that this was not a first. Already a Spanish citizen, who turned out to be a false invalid, had hidden 13 kilograms of cocaine in his wheelchair last August, being then discovered and arrested.
