For the first time, there are more viewers under 35 than over 55 at La Scala in Milan. It is the result of Superintendent Dominique Meyer's ideas and efforts implemented over the previous three years. The new season, which begins on December 7 with Verdi's Don Carlo, contains 14 operas and seven ballets, as well as an emphasis on Puccini to commemorate the centennial of his death and the return of Riccardo Muti with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. 2022 ended with 700,000 euros in profits on a balance sheet of 117.4 million euros, with almost 44 million euros from private partners and sponsors: a record for the Milanese Opera Foundation, as well as 12.4 million euros in income from artistic activities. Average takings each evening grew by 13% for concerts, 10% for ballet, and 21% for opera.
