After a rough start on Twitter, Ron DeSantis' electoral campaign seems to have found the right path. The crash of Twitter Spaces that made listeners and viewers lose more than half an hour of the dialogue between Elon Musk and Trump's challenger for the primary elections that will lead to the 2024 presidential elections, has not discouraged the donors of the governor of Florida. Raised 8.2 million dollars in just 24 hours, with a million in one hour. There is great attention in Italy on the Grand Old Party challenge, because of DeSantis’ origins. All of his eight great-grandparents were in fact Italians. They arrived in the United States from South-central Italy: L'Aquila, Caserta, Avellino and Campobasso. His mother, Karen Rogers, had seen her surname changed by her grandfather, Philip Ernest Ruggiero, as often did Italian emigrants in the USA. However, it is not easy to go deeper into his lineage. Instead, from the small town of origin of his paternal family, Bugnara, in the province of L'Aquila, someone has reconstructed his family tree. The maternal great-grandmother, Maria Nolfi (born in 1901), married Nicola De Santis (1898-1971). After settling in the USA, their union gave birth to Daniel James DeSantis (1923-1979), grandfather of the governor, who married Viola Petrella (1923-2016), also from Abruzzo, daughter of Salvatore and Maria Dominique Casasanta. From their marriage, here is Ronald Daniel DeSantis, father of the aspiring presidential candidate of the United States. (Photo Gage Skidmore)
