Leonardo has been awarded a contract by NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to supply a new RAT 31 DL/M long-range air defense radar. This is the third mobile system in this category for the German Air Force, which has had two of these sensors in service since the beginning of the decade. The supply also includes the technological upgrade of the German Air Force's first two RAT 31 DL / M, for which other contracts have recently been signed. Logistics analysis, training, and operational start-up are also included as support activities. It is the first time the NATO Agency has purchased a complete radar system since the 1990s. The contract also confirms Leonardo and the NSPA's field support capabilities. The RAT31 DL/M is an L-band solid-state 3D surveillance radar with a long range that is designed to protect large areas of territory. The sensor is part of a family of long-range systems that can support national security and operational missions with surveillance, air and missile defense capabilities, including ballistic missiles. The RAT 31 DL/M can adapt to a variety of operating scenarios, including those characterized by jamming and electromagnetic disturbances. It is highly reliable, and even if some radar modules fail, the "graceful degradation" characteristics allow the system's overall performance to be guaranteed.
