By beating Leo Borg, son of the great Bjorn, in two sets, Matteo Arnaldi guaranteed Italy automatic qualification to the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. In fact, the Azzurri needed only one point against Sweden to hit the target after Chile's loss to Canada. Arnaldi, number 47 ATP, prevailed over Borg Jr, number 334, in two sets with the score 6-4, 6-3 in 1 hour and 22 minutes of play. "It was a good week, a great experience, I'm glad I brought the point to the team today," were Arnaldi's warm words, "I always start a little slow, it's my trademark, but I've learned to accept it. I dedicate this victory to all Italians". For Arnaldi, 5 aces against 2 double faults, 58% first serve with which he scored 79% of the points and a 98% second serve (with 48% of the points won), only one break suffered (in the third game of the first set). He recorded 10 winners against 18 unforced errors. In the quarterfinals in Malaga, Italy will face either the Netherlands (which finished first in Group D, played in Spalato) or one of Great Britain or Australia (in Group B at the Manchester Arena it is still to be decided): the draw is scheduled for Tuesday 19.
