The landings emergency and the management of migrant arrivals are a "problem that concerns all of Europe" and not just Italy. Therefore, the response must be European and, perhaps, the United Nations should also be involved, as the Italian government hopes. Yesterday Giorgia Meloni and Ursula von der Leyen visited the island of Lampedusa, tried by the constant number of arrivals on its shores: first the hotspot, which is almost collapsing, then the Favaloro Pier, sadly known for being the place where the many dilapidated and makeshift boats with which migrants cross the Mediterranean land. And it was precisely on the pier that the Council President and the chairwoman of the EU Commission lingered the longest, in front of the many abandoned small boats, an expanse of "carcasses" that strikes the eye. A visit to the island that was not only symbolic but meant to be - as the two leaders stressed - a concrete testimony to the awareness that all of united Europe must give a response. And it is precisely on this point that Meloni insisted, warning all the states of the Union: it is a problem of "such a magnitude that if we do not all work together the numbers of the migratory phenomenon will overwhelm all the states of Europe".
