You save on everything, starting with spending. However, dining out in a restaurant or pizzeria is a pleasure that many Italians do not forego. According to Istat data, the catering industry has recovered from the pre-Covid years, with a 13.8% increase in recent months compared to 2022. This result was verified over the summer (+28.7% in the second quarter, which included June). Of course, the general pricing and inflation dynamics played an important role. Catering prices are expected to rise 5.9 percent in August 2023, compared to the previous year. Gourmet cuisine offers the highest levels of satisfaction. According to the tourism consulting firm JFC, the turnover of Michelin-starred restaurants increased by more than 26 percent in 2022, from 259 million to 327 million pre-pandemic. The 329 restaurants with one Michelin star grossed more than 259.9 million (up from 203.9 million in 2019 when there were 288 businesses with one star). The 38 two-star restaurants grossed 47.12 million, while the 11 three-star restaurants saw their turnover increase to 20.46 million (+66%) from 12.32 million in the pre-Covid period.
