"We make deportations of dangerous undocumented migrants faster, introduce full protections for all women and maintain those for minors. But with the new rules it will no longer be possible to lie about real age". This is how Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni summarizes the decree on immigration and security approved yesterday by the Council of Ministers, rebutting the controversy that has come from many quarters - Garante per l'infanzia in the lead - regarding some of the measures introduced on lone minors, first and foremost the possibility of housing 16-year-olds in ordinary centers and not exclusively in facilities specifically dedicated to their age group. One measure present in the final draft remains out, namely the possibility for the Ministry of the Interior to make use of the Coast Guard in hotspots: it seems there was a lack of financial coverage.
