Italian fruit and vegetable exports related to the first five months of 2023 amounted to 2.3 billion euros, marking a growth of 9.5 percent compared to 2.1 billion euros in the same period of 2022. These are International Trade Centre figures highlighted by the "I Love Fruit & Veg From Europe" program. Growing numbers in the wake of the excellent trend recorded by the European Union, which went from fruit and vegetable exports of €46.51 billion in 2021 to 48.97 billion euros in 2022 (+5.3 percent), with Italy weighing in at €5.26 billion. Germany is the top export country for Italian fruit and vegetable production with a value of €1.61 billion, followed by France (€477 million), Austria (€351 million), Spain (€233 million) and Poland (€218 million). In detail, the figure for world vegetable exports in 2022 was €50.2 billion, up from €46.3 billion in 2021. The European Union weighs as much as 44.6 percent of total vegetable exports by value (with the Netherlands and Spain the world's second and third largest exporters). At the individual country level, Mexico is the world's leading exporter followed by the Netherlands, Spain, China, the United States, Canada, France and Italy. Other EU countries with substantial vegetable exports are Belgium, Poland and Germany. EU exports will increase from €17.2 billion in 2020 to €22.3 billion in 2022. Italy accounts for 3.3 percent of world vegetable exports, making it the world's eighth largest exporter.
