The number of Italian series and films produced with some foreign circulation in 2022 is estimated to be between 183 (minimum estimate) and 203 (maximum estimate), for a total value linked to exports of between 106 million (minimum estimate) and 156 million (maximum estimate), a significant increase over 2017 data, when foreign circulation was worth nearly one-third of its current value. This is the conclusion of a study conducted by the National Association of Audiovisual and Digital Film Industries and the Association of Audiovisual Producers. The study thus quantifies a period of rapid expansion marked by the coexistence of four elements that, between 2017 and 2022, resulted in an increase in international output and circulation volumes: the rise in global demand; the entry into the market of global VoD operators, who have played an important role in the production of Fiction, Documentary, and Animation series and films; the Tax Credit, which has been extended (since 2017) to video-television productions and then enhanced in the run-up to the Covid-19 pandemic; the entry into the market of foreign capital, which has pushed national companies into a context of broader and more intense international relations However, the study warns that the impact of these four factors will tend to decrease physiologically in the future years. The dialogue between sector operators and institutions will be critical in continuing to support the strengthening of our industry's production and distribution capacities, as well as encouraging the growth of the economic and cultural value that the national audiovisual sector can bring to Italy in the international context.
