A moment of great solemnity and emotion took place yesterday at the Farnesina when a wreath was laid at the foot of the steps dedicated to Ambassador Luca Attanasio, who died in Congo three years ago following an attack in which Carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci and driver Moustapha Milambo also lost their lives, and whose memory was celebrated. "The memory of Ambassador Attanasio is alive here at the Farnesina in every place dedicated to him. His memory also lives on in fellow diplomats, for whom he represents an example and whom we want young people to be inspired by during their path along the diplomatic career," said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Edmondo Cirielli during the Commemoration Ceremony. "His moral values," he added, "are well known to all; that is why the Farnesina has dedicated scholarships to him to foster and strengthen the exchange of culture between peoples. Also present at the ceremony was Ambassador Attanasio's wife, Zakia Seddiki Attanasio: "Keeping Luca's memory alive has a value that goes beyond his person, but serves to give recognition to the way Luca represented his work. Luca represented his country with great pride, being a diplomat was his life mission, he always said he had a responsibility as great as our country”. The commitment and sacrifice of Carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci was also remembered during the event, as Carabiniere General Francesco Gargano pointed out, "Carabiniere Iacovacci leaves a great example of consistency, valor, determination and courage. He was a simple guy, a fine Carabiniere, a bearer of extraordinary values”.
