Rules for carrying luggage on board Trenitalia's fast trains, the Frecce, are changing. As of March 1, 2024, Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca travelers will be able to carry up to a maximum of two pieces of luggage per passenger on board free of charge, with some specific size limits that vary by class of travel. For those traveling in second class and in Standard and Premium levels of service, the sum of total baggage dimensions (length + width + depth), including pockets, wheels and handles, must not exceed 161 cm (of which each dimension must not exceed 80 cm). Those traveling in first class and in Executive and Business service levels the sum of total baggage dimensions (length plus width plus depth), including pockets, wheels and handles, shall not exceed 183 cm (of which each dimension shall not exceed 120 cm). Carriage of sports equipment and musical instruments, such as skis, baby carriages, strollers, bicycles (provided they are disassembled and/or foldable) and electric scooters is allowed. These items may be carried in addition to the two allowed luggage items, as long as their overall dimensions do not exceed 200 cm. Bicycles and scooters must be placed in a bag whose dimensions do not exceed 80x110x45 cm.
