At the Stelvio Pass, the summer ski season will begin a few days later. The famous "Cima Coppi," made famous by the Giro d'Italia, was excluded from this year's edition of the "pink race" due to the risk of avalanches and to ensure the athletes' safety, as the pass is still inaccessible due to snow. The Stelvio, one of the few ski resorts in the Alps where summer skiing is still possible, has received 70 cm of snow in recent days. Snow removal on the SS38 from Bormio to Valtellina is currently underway, but the road remains inaccessible. The clearing work on the South Tyrolean side, which climbs from Prato Stelvio through 48 hairpin bends, was scheduled to begin yesterday morning from the pass, but bad weather prevented it. The ski season is expected to begin on June 6, five days later than scheduled.
