2023 will go down in history as a watershed moment in Italian tourism, with over 134 million arrivals and 451 million stays in hotels and accommodations. This is the highest figure ever, surpassing pre-pandemic levels in 2019, with a balance of +3.0 million arrivals (+2.3%) and +14.5 million presences (+3.3%). According to data released by Istat and the Ministry of Tourism, arrivals are expected to increase by 13.4% and presences by 9.5% over 2022. Veneto has the highest number of presences (15.9% of national presences), followed by Trentino-Alto Adige (12.4%), Tuscany, Lombardy, and Lazio (all just over 10%). Campania is the first region of the South, accounting for 4.5% of national presences (just over 20 million).
