Rome police arrested Simone Borgese, 39, on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault following an incident on May 8. The man approached a student at the Via della Magliana bus stop and asked for directions. After showing her his dead cellphone, he persuaded her to get into the car and assist him. Borgese pretended to make a phone call while on board and began making insistent advances on the young woman, eventually leading her to an isolated area where he raped her. Following the attack, the man returned the victim's mobile phone and drove her back to Villa Bonelli. Thanks to the victim's information and descriptions, the investigators began their investigation by analyzing images from video surveillance cameras along the attacker's route. At the time of the complaint, the girl recognized Borgese from a photo album presented by the police. Borgese was already known to law enforcement, having served seven years in prison in Rieti for raping and robbing a taxi driver in 2015. On that occasion, the man stunned the woman with a punch in the face before abusing her. The Judicial Authority has ordered that Borgese be remanded in prison. Both abuses happened on May 8, nine years apart.
