Two men died aboard a hang glider that crashed during landing near the Tuscany Flight airfield in the town of San Miniato, in the province of Pisa. The cause of the crash is still to be ascertained. The victims are the pilot, Paolo Fagiolini, 59, of Ponsacco (Pisa), a regular at the airfield and an experienced hang-glider, and his friend Riccardo Montanari, 41, of Bientina (Pisa). By the time 118 rescue workers arrived, there was nothing to do for the two. The incident is being investigated by Carabinieri. According to an initial reconstruction, the most likely hypothesis is that the aircraft had a sudden failure in flight that made it ungovernable and then crashed to the ground at high speed without leaving a chance for the two occupants. Firefighters were needed to free the bodies stuck in the cockpit.
