According to data from the ice cream sector of Unione Italiana Food, in 2023 Italy made nearly 170 thousand tons of industrial ice cream, worth nearly 1.9 billion euros and a per capita consumption of 2.14 kg. About 4,500 people are employed in Italy in production, while sales are entrusted to groceries and large-scale retail chains for consumption at home, and the more than 100 thousand bars in our peninsula. IGI - Italian Ice Cream Institute also notes that in 2023, sales in our country stood at 3.7 billion servings. For the new season, there is a positive sign that it is hoped will continue in the coming months: in the progressive until April 2024, packaged ice cream in the retail channel is, in fact, growing both in value, +3.9% and in volume +1.3% (data from Unione Italiana Food and Circana - total Italy + discount).
