Pope Francis paid a long visit to Rome's Capitol, where he was greeted by Rome's mayor, Roberto Gualtieri. This was the Pope's second visit to the Capitol, following his appearance on March 26, 2019. Pope Francis entered through the entrance of the Lances, where he was greeted by trumpet blasts. Later, accompanied by the mayor, he went to the Tabularium and stopped at the first arch, which overlooked the Roman Forum. At the end of the visit, Pope Francis appeared in the square with the mayor to thank the workers for their contributions to the city of Rome and recited a prayer for the city. After that, he greeted the councillors in Julius Caesar Hall, saying, "See you at the Jubilee!". During his visit, Pope Francis spoke about Rome's universal spirit, emphasizing that it must be "at the service of charity, welcome, and hospitality". He emphasized the importance of assisting pilgrims, tourists, migrants, people in dire need, the poorest, the lonely, the sick, the imprisoned, and the excluded, referring to them as true witnesses of this spirit. In this regard, the Pope announced his intention to open a holy door in a prison, emphasizing the significance of inclusion and support for those on the margins of society.
