Milan preliminary hearing judge Roberto Crepaldi sentenced Mattia Lucarelli and Federico Apolloni, young Livorno soccer players, to 3 years and 7 months in prison for sexual assault against a 22-year-old American student. The decision came at the end of an abbreviated trial, which also involved three other defendants. The two soccer players, including Lucarelli, son of former striker Cristiano, had been arrested and placed under house arrest in January 2023, only to be released in June of that year. Prosecutors' investigations had reconstructed the events of the night of March 26-27, 2022, speculating a case of gang rape.
