Tensions within the European Union have risen after the Commission decided to increase tariffs on Chinese electric car imports from 7.4% to 38.1%. Brussels sources claim these cars "benefit from unfair subsidies" and "pose a threat of economic harm to EU manufacturers." However, Berlin opposes this move and urges the Commission to negotiate with China, stating, "We do not want a trade war." Stellantis also opposes the tariffs. Conversely, the Italian government supports the measure, with Minister Urso declaring, "We do not want to miss the opportunity to strengthen the Italian car industry." Beijing reacted immediately, indicating it is ready for commercial reprisals.
