Yesterday morning, an extraordinary accident occurred in Rivamonte Agordino, in the Belluno region, during the 29th edition of the Sportful Dolomiti Race. This race is one of the most challenging Gran Fondo races in Europe, with nearly 4,000 cyclists at the start. An elderly lady from the area, driving a small car, entered the road in the opposite direction as the race and, in a curve, ran over three runners, who were taken to the hospital in Agordo with various fractures. The three cyclists, a 46-year-old from Lucca, a 34-year-old from Rovereto, and a 49-year-old Irishman, are all safe. Emergency services were dispatched immediately, and the injured cyclists were transported to the nearest hospital, Papa Luciani in Agordo. The woman ignored the prohibitions and warnings of those present to stop, effectively forcing the alt imposed by the race direction, who also attempted to chase her.
