Italians' pockets are becoming increasingly strained due to rising rental costs. According to a survey conducted by Il Sole 24 Ore, "between 2018 and 2023, the average weight of the fee on employee income in provincial capitals rose from 31.6% to 35.2%2, reaching 40% in as many as six cities. Cross-referencing OMI (Real Estate Market Observatory) data with Finance tax statistics reveals that, since 2018, the pressure of free rents on residents' paychecks has increased by an average of 3.6%. With peaks in Vicenza (+8.5%), Bologna, and Milan (both at 6.3%).
