There are 6.5 million Italians who will not go on vacation this year, with up to 3.7 million citing economic reasons; the data comes from a survey commissioned by the comparator portal Facile.it and conducted by mUp Research and Bilendi. According to the survey of a representative sample of the national population, 56% of those who do not leave say they cannot afford to do so economically. This percentage reaches 64% among respondents aged 25 to 34 and those over 65, while it rises to 66% among residents of the South and Islands. If, again, 47% of those who will not leave for economic reasons say they are struggling as a result of the general increase in the cost of living, the percentage among the over 65s rises to 71%. On the other hand, 33% of those who will stay at home for economic reasons stated that they will not leave due to the increase in holiday-related prices. In this case, the most vulnerable group is the under-25s (52%). According to the survey, the most common non-economic reasons for renunciation are a lack of vacation days (21%), the need to care for a family member (10.5%), or an animal (13%). It should also be noted that many Italians remain undecided; approximately 7.7 million are unsure whether or not they will leave.
