Fear is back in the Phlegraean Fields due to a series of earthquake tremors felt last night, the strongest of which, at 3:58 a.m., was magnitude 3.4 and was also felt sharply in Bagnoli and Fuorigrotta, neighborhoods of Naples, and on the island of Procida. The epicenter of the seismic event was identified between Arco Felice and Lucrino, in the sea, at a depth of nearly three kilometers. The 3:58 a.m. quake had been preceded by two other upheavals of much lower intensity. According to experts, it was the shallow depth of the epicenter that made the tremor more noticeable. In the evening of June 17 in the same area there had been two low intensity quakes, one at 7:29 p.m. of 1.3 magnitude and another at 9:30 p.m. of 1.8 magnitude.
