A cardiologist at a Benevento hospital and an honorary deputy prosecutor, then working at the Lecce Public Prosecutor's Office, were placed under house arrest on charges of gang rape, aggravated by the fact that one of the perpetrators was an on-duty public official. The two men are accused of abusing unsuspecting patients during fake medical examinations, recording the abuse with photos and videos. According to the Benevento prosecutor's office, the cardiologist, with the active complicity of the ADA, who presented himself as his colleague, carried out highly intrusive acts during fake cardiology medical examinations. The abuse was filmed by the two accomplices, further aggravating the violation of the victims' sexual freedom. The operation was conducted by financiers from the Economic and Financial Police Unit in Lecce, who carried out an order issued by the Court of Review in Naples. This order had been issued on an appeal by the Benevento Public Prosecutor's Office and later upheld by the Court of Cassation after the suspects' appeal was declared inadmissible.
