Compared to the EU average of 73%, Italian gas storage is currently at 78%, ensuring a good safety margin for the upcoming winter campaign. Storage is critical in winter, accounting for 25% to 30% of gas consumption, with daily peaks of 40% during the coldest months. This is a critical component in ensuring energy security, and Snam leads the way as the owner of 9 of Italy's 13 existing depots. With the recent activities, the group led by Stefano Venier has confirmed the fundamental role of gas stocks: a total capacity of 12.4 billion cubic meters of gas for the thermal year 2024-2025 has been offered and fully allocated via an auction mechanism. With this volume added to the strategic "buffer" made available by Snam, the total capacity exceeds 17 billion cubic metres.
