After a double draw, Giovanni Razzari has been elected as the new mayor of Zerba, a small town in Emilia-Romagna, in terms of seniority over his challenger, Claudia Borré. The case, sensationalized and certified by Eligendo, the Ministry of the Interior's portal, is more unique than rare: after two weeks, the two candidates were tied with 28 votes each, a runoff, or a replay of the challenge, was held last weekend. However, none of the 56 voters changed their minds or gave up, and the contest ended 28-28. Because there are no "penalty kicks", the law declares the oldest candidate elected: Razzari is 73 years old, while Borré (already mayor for fifteen years until 2019) is "only" 52. It should be noted that, at least in Zerba, turnout was extremely high: only one of the 57 eligible voters did not vote. And to suggest that his vote would have been decisive.
