A 54-year-old woman and a 10-year-old child fell to the bottom of an artesian well about 15 meters deep in a countryside area of Palazzolo Acreide, Syracuse province, Sicily. The baby died, while she was rescued by a team of firefighters and rescued by 118. The woman, who is reportedly a worker for the cooperative National Association of Families of People with Intellectual and/or Relational Disabilities, allegedly lowered herself to retrieve the child who was participating in a summer camp organized by the co-op for young disabled children. The 54-year-old woman allegedly failed to grab the little one, who drowned: the well, located in the Falabia district, was half full of water.
