Italian exports are growing but very unevenly. If the South leads the way and the North holds, the Center suffers. According to Sace's Doing Export Report 2024, the value of exports of goods abroad is expected to exceed €650 billion this year. Last year it was 626. The South in 2023 exported goods worth €68.3 billion (about 11% of Italian exports), up 2.9% from 2022, a better dynamic than the nationwide figure, which remained static. Then in the first quarter of 2024, the positive trend continued for the South, thanks to a 5.8% growth over the same period last year. This is an excellent performance when compared with the national negative performance (-2.8%). Among the regions, leading the way is Campania (+29.2%), which achieved sales of €22 billion last year. This is followed by Sicily with €14 billion and Puglia with €10.1 billion. The North, on the other hand, exported goods worth about €438 billion last year (70 % of Italian exports), up slightly from 2022 (+0.9%).
