Emanuele Grimaldi was unanimously re-elected President of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) by the board of directors of the international shipowners' association, which met in Montreal during the annual meeting of the organization, which represents 80% of the world's merchant fleet. Grimaldi, president and chief executive officer of Italy's Grimaldi Euromed, will chair ICS for another two-year term. "I am deeply honored to have been re-elected president of the ICS. We have made good progress with our proposals to help achieve the International Maritime Organization's 2050 net-zero emissions targets, and we continue to work with UN bodies on the major issues impacting the maritime sector." "We are going through a very controversial geopolitical period, which has seen maritime transport and our innocent workers end up in the crosshairs of conflicts in the Middle East. This is in addition to the conflict in Ukraine and attacks on merchant ships in the Red and Black Seas that have jeopardized the safety of our seafarers and disrupted trade. This is unacceptable and we will continue to focus on the heart of our industry: our seafarers."
