After meeting Europe's objectives, Italy has received the fifth installment - €11 billion - of the nearly €194.5 billion made available to the country as part of the Recovery and Resilience Facility. Nine milestones have been reached in terms of green transition, waste, and water management. By the end of 2023, Italy had closed 22 illegal landfills (out of 34, or more than 60%) and improved separate waste collection, closing the 9% gap between the national average and the worst-performing region. Among the five measures planned for sustainable mobility are 200 kilometres of completed cycle paths in urban areas. Or the expansion of public transportation infrastructure by another 231 kilometers. In regional transportation, more than 3,000 new vehicles have been purchased to increase the fleet of zero- or low-emission buses. Regarding the digital transition, another 6,678 public administrations have implemented online payment systems. In addition, 55,000 scholarships were awarded to students facing socioeconomic difficulties. Under two health targets, all regions implemented at least one telemedicine project, and 500 pharmacies in small communities received assistance.
