Two leading players in the Italian system, the Ferrovie dello Stato group and Eni, signed an agreement in Rome to collaborate in the fields of transportation, energy, and materials through feasibility studies, analyses, and experimentation with innovative technological solutions. A year ago, the FS group and Eni launched a trial to replace diesel with pure HVO biofuel, using Trenitalia's latest generation Blues hybrid trains in Calabria. Enilive's biofuel from renewable sources, HVOlution, can help reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80%. With the new agreement, Ferrovie dello Stato and Eni will collaborate to identify and develop new opportunities, such as the use of alternative fuels for transportation, intermodal logistics solutions, and energy efficiency best practices. The agreement also includes the definition of regulations, methodologies, and technical standards, as well as the experimentation of new sustainability and circular economy technologies.
