Maria Rita Viaggi, one of the announcers who told Italians every day and every evening about RAI's programming schedule, died in Grosseto. Viaggi had not yet turned 70 and passed away, killed by an illness, in Grosseto, her hometown, where she had returned to live after many years spent in Rome. She was just at home with her husband, Vincenzo Gerghi, when she fell ill. The 118's attempts to revive her were vain. Her career had begun at the local Roman TV station GBR and continued at RAI starting in 1982 as a TV announcer before being hired in 1988. In addition to announcements, she anchored TG1 weather forecast until September 21, 2003, when the historic “Miss Good Evening” figure was replaced by six new girls, two for each station.
