Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, spoke with David Lammy, the new Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, the Commonwealth, and Development Cooperation in the United Kingdom, over the phone yesterday. It was the two ministers' first contact since the installation of the new British government, and it came after Prime Minister Meloni and Prime Minister Starmer spoke on the phone. "I wanted to confirm to Secretary of State Lammy my willingness to continue in the wake of the excellent bilateral relations and broad political convergences between Rome and London, strengthened in recent years thanks also to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for enhanced cooperation between Governments in 2023", Tajani reported. "We want to build on this positive collaboration and ensure close coordination, including within the G7 and NATO, on the major international dossiers of common strategic interest, such as support for Ukraine, the Middle East crisis, African stability, and migration policies. We are also committed to enhancing collaboration within the European context, given the new British government's stance, which is more inclined toward dialogue with the EU".
