A 34-year-old man has been charged for alleged aggravated sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl, the daughter of neighbors on Ponza, the island in the province of Latina where the attacker also lives. The latter, a seasonal waiter originally from Rome who recently landed on the island to work in a restaurant, was identified by Carabinieri and charged. The 34-year-old allegedly broke into the neighbors' home and abused the young girl, who is of Romanian descent. A travel warrant was issued against the alleged rapist, who was identified by Carabinieri. The man had previous convictions for drug dealing and theft. After the abuse, the little girl was immediately transferred by helicopter to Santa Maria Goretti Hospital in Latina and is now hospitalized in a hospital in Rome. The 16-year-old girl was on the island with her parents, who both work in restaurants on the island during the summer season. The 34-year-old, who had failed a probationary period at a club, was staying in a house with other people right next door to the one rented by the minor's parents in Conti. The young girl had been alone in the house, while dad and mom were at work, when the neighbor broke into the house to abuse her. It was the mother who reported the man to the Carabinieri, who, although under investigation, is still free. The investigation continues to reconstruct the exact details of the incident, pending the outcome of medical examinations on the girl.
