No one is growing in the container market like MSC, the shipping group headed by the Aponte family and which is already the world's leading company in the maritime transport of containers. In the period between the beginning of 2021 and May 2024, just under three and a half years, MSC's capacity on its ships increased by 1.569 million TEUs (unit of measurement of the container equal to a twenty-foot piece) out of a grand total of 3.8 for the top ten companies in the world. An impressive figure, equal to 42%, achieved despite international tensions linked to the war fronts and the return of the Cape of Good Hope route, as an alternative to a Red Sea hostage to attacks by Houthi rebels. This is rapidly changing the scenario, affecting above all the increase in maritime freight rates. On the Shanghai-Genoa route, for example, the increase in the last two months has been more than 100% and now reaches over 7 thousand dollars per 40-foot container.
