The "occasion holidays” found on the web appear to have had their day: too exhausting to look for the best rate, a jungle to navigate through thousands of proposals. In Italy, where tourism has finally recovered to pre-pandemic levels, travel agencies are seeing a boom in business. Almost half of the agencies, 44%, saw revenue growth from January to May compared to the same period in 2023. 36% reported stable revenues, while only 20% experienced a setback. The Politecnico di Milano's Travel Innovation Observatory assessed the situation. Not only is travel agency turnover increasing, but so are bookings made through this channel, which have increased by 43%. But what offers are most popular with clients in the agency during the summer of 2024? Sicily receives 42% of summer bookings from agencies, followed by Sardinia at 40%, Puglia at 39%, and Calabria at 26%. Campania also performed well, with 17% of choices, aided by the allure of the Amalfi Coast. In short, Southern Italy is by far the most popular product in today's travel agencies.
