In Reggio Calabria, two dead fetuses, wrapped in a sheet, were found in a closet by a woman who immediately called the Police. Investigators' suspicions are focused on the woman's daughter, a 24-year-old woman who is being investigated for double infanticide and is now hospitalized. The young woman, who had already shown up at the hospital in recent days complaining of illness, allegedly gave birth under circumstances that remain to be clarified. The Reggio Calabria prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the case, which is being worked on by the mobile squad, on suspicion of the crime of double infanticide. An autopsy will determine how many months old the fetuses found were, although from an initial external examination it would appear that they were "fully formed". So far it has not been possible to determine this, and it appears that no indication has come from the young woman. The autopsy examination will also have to determine whether the two fetuses were born alive or whether they were already dead at the time of birth. It will then have to be ascertained whether the delivery was regular or whether it was a case of abortion. This can all be verified by the medical examiner through a test called "pulmonary docimasia", which allows the presence of air in the lungs to be ascertained. The investigation will then have to ascertain whether there was anyone aware of the woman's pregnancy and how many months she had been expecting.
