The government has committed to over one billion euros, specifically 1.2 billion euros, for the implementation of the interventions included in the environmental remediation and urban revitalization program of the Bagnoli-Coroglio district. This commitment was made in the memorandum of understanding that was signed today with the Extraordinary Commissioner Gaetano Manfredi. A day that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, of Naples, deemed "significant" due to the fact that "all the attempts at redevelopment in over 30 years have not achieved the desired results" in the industrial area of Bagnoli. "I understand those who talk about the need of walkways out here; I think they are social centers, but even if they were citizens' committees, I would understand it, because here many promises have been betrayed. But give us the confidence to show you that things can really change". As stated by Meloni, "in recent years there has been a lack of resources for the commissioner to work and we intend to intervene: we have taken care of identifying the necessary resources”. As previously stated, the resources will be taken from the Cohesion Fund, "with the signing of a protocol that indicates a precise roadmap: today the government puts its face on a long-standing problem, but politics must challenge itself on difficult objectives". According to the Premier, a complex of interventions is planned for Bagnoli by 2031, with an estimated 10,000 direct and indirect workers. "In the coming weeks, following the asbestos remediation, the construction sites for the grounding of the first interventions will begin: the challenge is to transform a polluted and abandoned area into a modern tourist, seaside, and commercial center at the height of Naples and Campania. It is a strategic project that we have been able to carry out as a result of the government's cohesion policies, which aim to use all available resources to combat territorial gaps". Not only Bagnoli, but Meloni also takes advantage of the opportunity to provide "another piece of good news": the extension of the Southern Contribution Reduction, which has received bipartisan praise and granted by the European Commission: "We are working to make it structural, Minister Fitto is already working with the Commission, and I am confident". Together with the single SEZ and the tax credit, "they help to invest in the South and to develop the South, to ensure growth and the development of networks, because the South needs to be able to compete on equal terms".
