The City of Rome will grant 1,000 new licenses for as many cabs. At the same time, the cost of the minimum ride has been raised to 9 euros. Two decisions to revitalize the public transport service in the Eternal City, which has long been considered inadequate for the needs of a user base that, especially after the pandemic, has greatly increased the demand for rides, not only because of the tourism boom. The new licenses will cost around 70,000 euros each. For a ride, the minimum cost will rise, as mentioned, to 9 euros (12 on holidays): this measure, in the intentions of the Capitoline administration, should also serve to make short routes more attractive and, therefore, to discourage, the unfair practice of "refusing" passengers who have to move on routes such as those that, for example, go from Termini station to various places and addresses in the historic center, very close to the point of departure. The "shot on departure" will rise from 3 to 3.60 euros, as will the hourly fare from 28 to 32 euros. Rates will also be adjusted for rides to and from airports: between the Aurelian Walls and Fiumicino will rise from the current 50 euros to 55, and between the Walls and Ciampino from 31 euros today to 40. The price of rides from the center of Rome to the port of Civitavecchia (which will rise from 120 to 130 euros) will also be revised. There is also a move toward establishing a discount for those who have to go to public hospitals, for the over-70s and for young people leaving discos (equal to 10 percent), while for single women at night the savings should be 15%.
