In the past three years, the checks conducted have demonstrated that the drinking water in Italian homes is both safe and sustainable, with nearly 100% of the cases complying with the parameters specified by law. This is stated in the first report prepared by the National Center for Water Safety (CeNSiA) of the Italian National Institute of Health and presented today, giving information on water quality. The report, based on data produced by the Italian Regions in collaboration with the National System for Environmental Protection and coordinated by the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Health, examined the results of over 2.5 million chemical, chemical-physical, and microbiological analyses conducted in 18 Regions and Autonomous Provinces, covering more than 90% of the Italian population, between 2020 and 2022. Over the course of the three years, compliance rates ranged from 99.1% for the recognized chemical and microbiological health indicators to 98.4% for the indicator parameters, which do not pertain directly to health but do reveal abnormal variations in quality (such as those that impact flavor, aroma, or color). From a territorial standpoint, all regions demonstrated very high average compliance percentages, exceeding 95%. The fluctuations in the compliance rate are minimal in terms of health prevention, which is already adequately ensured.
