Ten social and health workers were arrested in Rome for torture, violence, and ill-treatment at a physical education center. House arrest would have been imposed on the ten operators accused of repeatedly inflicting violence on two patients suffering from serious psychophysical disorders. The investigations would have been triggered by a complaint from Capitoline Red Cross leaders in April 2023, after a patient at the facility developed a visible bruise on his face consistent with beatings. The carabinieri of the Rome investigative unit, acting on behalf of the Public Prosecutor's Office, would have carried out the investigating judge's order to apply for house arrest against the ten social and health workers. Five of these individuals would be accused of torture, while the remaining five would be accused of ill-treatment of individuals who were entrusted to them for the purposes of care, supervision, and custody. In one instance, the crime of sexual violence would have been hypothesized, as he would have harassed a patient. The carabinieri of Via In Selci, who specialize in the treatment of crimes against vulnerable victims, would have conducted their investigations from April to November 2023, using technical activities, document acquisition, and testimony.
