The Italian Antitrust Authority, also following the activity carried out by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Milan, has opened an investigation against some companies of the Armani Group (Giorgio Armani spa and G.A. Operations spa) and an investigation against some companies of the Dior Group (Christian Dior Couture, Christian Dior Italia srl and Manufactures Dior srl) for possible illegal conduct in the promotion and sale of clothing articles and accessories, in violation of the rules of the Consumer Code. "In both cases, the companies may have made untrue ethical and social responsibility statements, particularly regarding working conditions and respect for legality at their suppliers," reads a note. "In addition, the companies allegedly emphasized craftsmanship and excellence of workmanship. In the face of these claims, in order to make some clothing items and accessories, the companies would use supplies from workshops and factories employing workers who would receive inadequate wages. In addition, they would work hours beyond legal limits and under insufficient health and safety conditions, contrary to the companies' boasted levels of production excellence. Yesterday, Authority officials, with the help of the Special Antitrust Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, carried out inspections at the headquarters of Giorgio Armani spa and G.A. Operations spa and also at the headquarters of the company Christian Dior Italia srl”.
