Investigations into Matteo Messina Denaro's network of supporters continue with a series of searches, ordered by the Palermo Antimafia Prosecutor’s Office at a residential complex in Mazara del Vallo, Trapani. The measure stems from the Central Operational Service’s investigations, which made it possible to reconstruct the movements of the mafia leader in an area of Mazara in the months prior to his arrest. The focus has been on a residential complex where Messina Denaro is believed to have had the availability of a property or possible "confidential hideout" yet to be identified. Palermo Antimafia Prosecutor’s Office, coordinated by prosecutor Maurizio De Lucia, ordered a search and inspection of all garages in the residential complex and an inspection of the premises to see if any keys found to the fugitive and his supporters opened apartments and rooms in the structure. It was the keys found in Messina Denaro's possession on the day of his arrest, the analysis of his cell phone records and the images of video cameras placed in several points in the Trapanese area, the province where investigations for the former fugitive's capture have been focused for years, that led investigators to the Mazara del Vallo residential complex.
