The bill to punish with a fine of 5 to 10 thousand euros the use of the feminine gender in institutional and professional titles, drafted by Leghist senator Manfredi Potenti, will be withdrawn: the Lega party lets it be known that it was "a wholly personal initiative" that "the party leadership, starting with Senate group leader Massimiliano Romeo, does not agree with what is in Potenti's bill", whose text "does not in any way reflect the line of the League, which has already called for its immediate withdrawal". The goal of the bill was to preserve the integrity of the Italian language and prevent improper changes to public titles, but as of yesterday it had elicited mixed reactions, in many cases outraged by oppositions, who saw it as an attempt to limit gender equality and maintain a traditional, macho view of society.
